Hi, my name is Yasmina Ajbilou

My name is Yasmina Ajbilou and I am the designer behind the slow fashion label House of Useless. With House of Useless I celebrate the craftmanship of clothing which we make in a fair and sustainable way and femininity through our unique clothing.

My mother was a seamstress and as a little girl I always watched her make clothes for my sister and me. She turned pieces of fabric into dresses and that was pure magic for me and I felt the same passion. When I lost my mother when I was 12, I decided I also wanted to make it my profession and I started studying Fashion & Design. When I was 18, I worked in the atelier of the oldest theater costume company in De Pijp in Amsterdam. I learnt about all the historical details of clothing throughout history. A lot of clothing there was used for theater and film so the historical details had to be right. At the age of 20, I started studying Fashion Design at the Art Academy in Utrecht and graduated in 2016 with a BA in Fashion Design. I had my own shows at Amsterdam Fashion Week and my work was featured in many magazines like Italian Vogue. In 2018 I took a step back from this couture side of fashion and started House of Useless.

A few times a year I release a new piece of clothing which I add to our main collection. Our garments can be worn all year round. Thank you for choosing to add a sustainable piece of our House of Useless collection to your wardrobe, I hope you will enjoy it for many years!
